2025 BOYS BASKETBALL

The Sagemont Prep Lions completed another historic season by winning the 2025 FHSAA Class 1A Boys Basketball State Championship, defeating Victory Christian Academy 84–59 on February 27. This victory secured the program’s third consecutive state title, cementing the Lions as one of Florida’s premier basketball powers.The Lions closed the year with a 22–8 overall record, finishing ranked fourth in the state and 57th nationally.

Their postseason run began with a commanding 74–30 victory over Atlantic Christian, followed by a 66–53 semifinal win against Impact Christian Academy. That set the stage for a dominant performance in the championship game, where the Lions pulled away in the second half and never looked back.

The state final was highlighted by a career performance from senior leader Patrick Liburd, who poured in 29 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and added 4 assists and 3 blocks. Alongside him, star guard Matthew Able combined with Liburd for 49 points to power the Lions’ offense. Able’s outstanding season was capped off with recognition as the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 1A Player of the Year.Throughout the season, Sagemont Prep displayed balance and depth across its roster. Able led the team in scoring with 20.4 points per game, along with 5.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest. Kevin Thomas added 17.3 points per game and led the team in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game. Liburd contributed 16.4 points per game while shooting an efficient 55% from the field, and Anthony Knowles anchored the backcourt with 3.6 assists per game.

The Lions’ championship run is a testament to their teamwork, determination, and commitment to excellence. With a third straight Class 1A state title, Sagemont Prep continues to build on its legacy as one of the most successful basketball programs in Florida.
