FAB MELO

Fab Melo was one of the most dominant players in Sagemont Prep basketball history. Standing 7 feet tall, Melo transferred to Sagemont from Brazil and quickly became a force on the court in Florida high school basketball.

During his senior season (2009–10), he averaged 15.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game, leading Sagemont to a Florida Class 2A state championship. His defensive presence and rebounding ability made him one of the most intimidating big men in the state. Melo’s performance earned him recognition as a McDonald’s All-American (2010), a prestigious honor reserved for the nation’s top high school players.

At Sagemont, Melo not only solidified himself as a premier center, but also became one of the school’s most celebrated athletes, putting the program on the national map. His dominance in the paint and leadership helped inspire younger players and elevated the reputation of Sagemont Prep athletics. After high school, Fab Melo committed to Syracuse University, where he was named Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, before later being drafted in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft (22nd overall) by the Boston Celtics.
