2025 1970 Cross Country

George Phillips graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in 1970. He was a member of the cross country and track and field teams. Phillips placed 18th at the State Meet in 1967, 13th in 1968 and 2nd in 1969. He holds the 6th best 2-mile run time in school history. In 1970 he was the 1-mile run champion in the county and came in 2nd place in the 2-mile at the State championship. Following Reynolds, Phillips ran cross country and track for Appalachian State and was named ASU’s Most Outstanding Cross Country Runner in 1970, 1971 and 1974.
