Ron Lyons (2018)

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

Induction Year: 2018 | Graduation Year: 1955

Ron was born May 7, 1937, in New Germany, Ohio. After moving to the Medway area, he became a long-time resident of the Tecumseh Local School District. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1955. Soon after graduation, he began working for Mutual Electric Company in Dayton, Ohio as an electrician. He joined the Air Force in the early sixties and was stationed at Loring AFB, Maine. He continued working at Mutual upon his discharge. He retired from Mutual as a Journeyman Electrician after 40 years. He was well known for his electrical abilities, doing many electrical jobs for his church, friends and family.

Ron became well known in the Medway/New Carlisle area as a Bethel Township Trustee. Ron was dedicated to the Tecumseh Local School District and became a member of the Tecumseh Local School District School Board for eight years; he was active in helping with the new Athletic Facility; he served on the Chain Gang at the Tecumseh football games for a period of 25 years; he was always willing to help with traffic and parking at the Band Showcases at Tecumseh High School throughout the years. Ron was the Emcee for the Tecumseh Athletic Hall of Fame inductee ceremonies for many years as well as an active member of the Hall of Fame committee. He was on the Tecumseh Hall of Honor Committee and was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2013. Ron always jumped prior to the beginning of the football games at Tecumseh to help Betty and Carl Roller in the concession stands.

Being on the Athletic Hall of Fame committee since its inception, Ronnie was very instrumental in the induction of Wayne Embry into the Athletic Hall of Fame (a 1954 graduate of Tecumseh High School who went onto play professional basketball). He also worked with Clark County officials in honoring Wayne with a sign on Rt 40 in front of the high school naming it "Wayne Embry Way".

Ron sadly passed away very unexpectedly on a golf trip with his golf buddies on September 23, 2013. It was a great loss to his family, his golf friends, and the many other friends he made in his life time.

Ronnie’s wife Judy (who always called him Ronnie), Ron’s sons Doug (Elisa), and Chris, and his granddaughters Justyne & Piper, wish to thank the Tecumseh Athletic Hall of Fame for choosing Ron to be an inductee today. We know he is looking down on us(and making some of his funny jokes and comments), and of course that he is smiling. He is very deserving of this honor and we are proud that he stands among the many previous Hall of Fame inductees.
