Scott Herbert (2025)
Scott Herbert was born in 1966 in Xenia, Ohio to Mike and Cheryl Herbert. He was blessed with a brother, Todd, in 1974. He grew up in Fairborn playing soccer and baseball as a youth. He picked up wrestling in middle school and went on to earn two varsity letters in soccer and three in wrestling. He was coached by Denny Mlod and Bill Ennemoser in high school. Bill would later be a long time assistant coach with Scott atTecumseh and is a major reason for the success of the wrestling program. While wrestling in high school, he was a three time district qualifier, winning a sectional title as an individual and a team his senior year. He graduated from Fairborn High School in 1984.
Scott attended Miami University from 1984 to 1988 when he graduated with a BS in Secondary Science Education. Soon after graduation he began subbing at Fairborn and Tecumseh schools. He was also an Assistant Varsity Soccer and Wrestling coach at Fairborn.
Scott started teaching biology and chemistry at Tecumseh High School in 1990. He coached Varsity Boys Soccer from 1991 to 1996 finishing CBC runner up twice. He also coached girls tennis for two years. He was the head wrestling coach from 1991 to 2021. The first team only had 5 wrestlers, but they did well. The numbers picked up the next year and continued to grow when Don Doggett helped start the Arrow pee-wee program. The first state qualifier came two years later. Since then he has coached 27 state qualifiers, 8 state placers including TJ Rigel who was a two time state runner up, and Tristan Murray who was a state champion.Both are now members of the hall of fame. The wrestling team won the CBC 7 times and placed runner up 6 times. The team consistently placed high in the DI sectional tournaments and district tournaments. They placed14th at the state tournament twice. Due to the hard work of his wrestlers and assistant coaches, Scott was honored as Clark County coach of the year 3 times, Springfield News and Sun coach of the year twice andGreater Miami Valley Wrestling Association coach of the year in 2001. He was inducted into the GMVWA hall of fame in 2011. He stepped down as coach in 2021, but still tries to stay involved with the program he loved.
Scott was lucky enough to marry his wife Laura in 1995. Laura has been a dedicated nurse and nurse practitioner for 35 years. She has been a great supporter of Scott and the team. They have 3 sons, Michael, Aidan andSimon who all wrestled. Scott loves to play golf, disc golf and ping pong.Coach Herbert is honored to be inducted into the Tecumseh Athletic Hall of Fame. He thoroughly loved the time he spent at THS and all the relationships he developed, many of which are still close today. None of this would be possible without the support of his family, assistant coaches, athletic directors and wrestlers that he was lucky enough to coach. He is very grateful for all of you.
