Involved in many aspects of Tecumseh High School, Mark Blumenschein would be involved in the symphonic band for three years, student council, and honor society. But baseball would be what Mark would become known for. Carrying a 0.4 ERA and gaining the nickname Dr. K by the news media., he would have 121 strikeouts in 55 innings for a 2.1 average. As difficult as it is for one. Mark would throw 2 no hitters. one being against Springfield South with 18 strikeouts facing 21 batters. And the other being the MCC League Championship with West Carrollton. Though Tecumseh would change leagues, Mark would be named to the All MRVL his sophomore year and All MCC League Teams his senior year. Though THS did not have an affiliation his junior year. Undoubtedly, he would have been all-league that year too. He would also be recognized with All Area First Team, and be named to the All Ohio First Team in 1976.

The Chicago White Sox would draft Mark, but the decision to continue his education would allow Mark to attend the University of Toledo on a baseball scholarship. While playing there for four years, he would lead the nation in strikeouts per inning his freshman year. He would become the second most winning pitcher at Toledo and be selected to the all MAC league Academic team. With playing college summer leagues in Illinois and Alaska, Mark would eventually play with the USA All Stars in Canada and play with the Pan Am Tryout Teams in Venezuela, SA. Mark would be drafted again and be with the Minnesota Twins organization.

Education still calling, Mark would meet his wife Lynn Blumenschein and go on to the Ohio State Dental School. During this time, Mark would serve on the Ohio State Athletic Board and would be a player and coach for the Ohio State Summer Baseball League. Mark would complete his resident program at Billings Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

With son Ryan born in 1985 and daughter Kelly in 1988, Mark and Lynn would buy out a dental practice in Fairborn. He has since expanded and taken on a partner, along with being Team Dentist for the Dayton Bombers Ice Hockey Team.
