Becky Brooks Mallett (2003)
OUTSTANDING ATHLETE
Induction Year: 2003 | Graduation Year: 1968
Becky Brooks Mallett is a member of the 1968 graduating class of Tecumseh High School. During her three years at Tecumseh she was involved in many different activities such as Future Teachers of America, student council, yearbook staff, band, girls chorus, Jowca and GAA where she served as vice president and president. However her real love at Tecumseh was the girls' sports programs. She participated in every sport available. She began her career with field hockey. Never playing the sport, she made the varsity team and earned a starting position as left halfback. She then made and started every varsity team her three years in each sport, including volleyball, basketball and softball. She ran on the track team, running the 100-yard dash and on a very accomplished 440-relay team. In her sophomore year she subbed for a player on a tennis team. During her three years at Tecumseh, she received the honor of the Most Valuable Player award in volleyball, softball and field hockey. She bowled on the GAA sponsored bowling league, receiving an award for the high game with a score of 213. Her most prized and valued achievement came at the end of her senior year when she received the GAA All Girls' Sports Award. The criteria for this award insisted that the recipient must have earned a starting position on all varsity teams in field hockey, volleyball, basketball and softball. Becky qualified and won.
After graduating from Tecumseh Becky attended Bowling Green University, majoring in physical education. A real test of her abilities came when they gave a proficiency test in activities including swimming, volleyball, softball and basketball. Becky was one of the few that passed. She left Bowling Green to pursue a career asa dental assistant. She chose to start a family over pursuing her dreams of coaching and has never looked back. She has found solace in playing sports in her golden years, including softball, basketball, soccer, bowling, tennis and golf. When she moved to Atlanta, she took up tennis, and won three city final titles and plates, which are very coveted and cherished possessions that people play for, for years and never earn.
In addition to playing sports herself, she coached many of her children's teams. She was a board member governing the entire West Cobb County Girls' Association for Softball in Marietta, GA. She has coached her girls softball teams, but her greatest feat was coaching her son's boys' basketball team, winning the final tournament. Becky's competitive spirit is her trademark, which has been echoed and etched in her children's lives. Her daughters can attest to the looks from the dugout to the pitcher's mound while her son claims that she somehow manages to be the only voice sounding from the basketball bleachers urging him to move his feet.
Besides Becky's love for sports, she has worked at Purdue University in the accounting office, secretary and girl guard leader for Salvation Army in Lafayette, IN, taught Sunday school, volunteered at school, was a Rainbow leader and volunteered for the Crisis Line in Illinois. Most recently, she worked for six years at a background investigation company, InterSearch, in Marietta, GA, where she is still best known as "MotherInterSearch."
Since Becky Brooks Mallett's days walking down the hallowed halls of Tecumseh High School, the greatest success, joy and blessing in her life has been marrying her longtime boyfriend from sixth grade, Bruce Mallett and giving birth to three beautiful and wonderful children: Jennifer, Hollie and Benjamin. As one can see, Becky has accomplished many great things in her life, living by this simple saying, "Goals are scored, games are won, but real Glory is granted by God."
