Kim Deering O’Connor was a member of the 1992 graduating class of Tecumseh High School. She was a three-sport athlete playing and lettering in softball, track, and basketball during her years at Tecumseh. Kim always kept her primary focus on basketball but there was no question that she was a natural athlete with dedication and a strong work ethic that helped her excel at any sport she attempted.
Kim was on the track team her freshman and sophomore years at Tecumseh participating in the high jump and 300 hurdles. Kim broke the school record for the 300 hurdles the third time she ran the event with a time of 49.0 seconds. Kim was also considered one of the best high jumpers in Clark County clearing 5’3”. She was named Honorable Mention All-Conference in 1990.
During Kim’s years at Tecumseh she was a starter on the varsity basketball team all four years. She helped lead the team to 71 victories and two-second place finishes in the conference. Kim’s basketball accomplishments included being unanimously selected to the First Team All-CBC, Third Team All-District, District 9 All-Star, All Clark County, and Honorable Mention All-State. Kim set four school records in her career; points scored in a season, 3 point field goal percentage, points scored in a game (37), and she is in the 1,000 points club for a career.
Upon graduating from Tecumseh, Kim received a full athletic basketball scholarship from the University of Charleston where she attended her freshman year of college. She started as a freshman, and broke the school record for the most three pointers in a game, best 3 point percentage in a game (100% went 6/6) and is still among one of the top 10 players in school history for the most 3’s made in a season (70). Kim transferred her sophomore year to Ohio University where she continued her full scholarship and finished out her basketball career. While at OU she received the OU spirit hustle award, which is voted on by the team. Kim graduated from Ohio University majoring in Biology and was on the Dean’s List with a 3.8 GPA.
Kim has continued her strong work ethic and her love of sports as an adult. In 2001 she married Wade O’Connor, who is a college basketball coach. They have three children, Collin 2, and newborn twin girls, Hannah and Sydney.
