JT Brubaker was born in Springfield, Ohio, to Frank and Teresa Brubaker. JT and his sister Alex grew up in the Tecumseh School District. JT is a 2012 graduate of Tecumseh High School.
While at Tecumseh JT played both basketball and baseball and later went on to focus solely on baseball. In baseball, JT was a 3-year letterman. He played the infield and pitched throughout his career. His Junior year He started 8 games and had a 5-1 record and 1 no hitter. During his Senior Year he threw in 7 games and had a 4-1 record with a 0.75 ERA and had back-to-back no hitters. JT also had a career .341 Batting Average over his 3 years on Varsity. Both his Junior and Senior year JT was selected for 1st team CBC and All-Area Honorable mention his Senior year. He was also invited to play in the Bob Ross Classic, Miami Valley All-Area Game, and Mizuno All-Ohio Game.
JT continued his baseball career at The University of Akron. He was a 3-year letterman. Over his 3-year career JT earned MAC pitcher of the week on two occasions and made 2 starts in the MAC tournament. Following his junior year JT declared for the 2015 MLB amateur draft.
JT was selected on the second day of the draft in the 6th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Throughout the minor leagues JT was a part of 3 championship teams. He was also named Pitcher of The Week multiple times, and Minor League Organizational Pitcher of the year in 2018. JT made his Major League debut for the Pirates in 2020 vs. the St. Louis Cardinals where he threw 2 scoreless innings and has been in the majors since. In 2022 JT earned the Opening Day Starter spot. In 2023 his season came to an end when he had to undergo Tommy John surgery.
In early 2024 JT was traded to the New York Yankees where his journey back from surgery continued.
Off the field JT enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as hunting and playing golf. He is beyond grateful for this honor to be inducted into the Tecumseh Athletic Hall of Fame.
