Alison Steinbrunner Kwiat (2019)

Alison (Steinbrunner) Kwiat was born in Dayton, Ohio to Robert and Lori Steinbrunner. Alison and her sister, Jill, grew up in New Carlisle. She is a 2009 graduate of Tecumseh High School.

Throughout her high school career, Alison excelled in both academics and athletics. Alison was a two sport athlete, running both cross country and track, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.2 and graduating valedictorian.

Alison was four year letterman in cross country. Throughout her career at Tecumseh she won more than 15 races, was a three time CBC champion, and upon graduation, she held the 5k school record at Tecumseh with a time of 18:07. Alison’s senior year, she led the cross country team to win the CBC championship and qualify for the State meet. On the road to the Division I OHSAA State Cross Country Championships, Alison won two District Championships, was a Regional runner-up, two time state qualifier, and placed 7th at the State meet her senior year.

In track, Alison was a 3 year letterman due to an injury that sidelined her during her sophomore campaign. In total, Alison won 48 individual races in the 400m, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m and assisted 22 relays to victory in the DMR, 4x400m, and 4x800m. Alison was a three time CBC champion, and was part of one CBC champion relay team. On the road to the Division I OHSAA Track and Field Championships, she was a six time district placer, three time regional placer, and a two time state placer in the 3200m (7th & 5th). At the time of graduation, Alison held 5 Tecumseh school records in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.

Alison attended Ohio Northern University where she continued both her academic and athletic success. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Doctorate in Pharmacy in 2015, with a cumulative 3.98 GPA. Alison was a three sport athlete and four year letterman, participating in cross country and indoor and outdoor track. At the time of her graduation, Alison held eight different school records: the 5000m (17:42) and 6000m (21:00) cross country records, the mile (4:58), 3200m (10:04), 5000m (16:52), and distance medley relay (12:04) records in indoor track, and the 5000m (17:04) and 10000m (35:44) records in outdoor track.

In cross country, Alison is the first and only woman to become a four time Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) champion and OAC female runner of the year. She was also a two time Great Lakes Regional champion and runner of the year, four time DIII NCAA National Qualifier, three time All-American. Her senior year, Alison was the 2012 NCAA national runner-up, the highest place by any runner in ONU and OAC history. Alison led her cross country teams to win three OAC championships and to qualify for the NCAA National Championships her junior year.

Between indoor and outdoor track, Alison won thirteen different OAC titles in the 3000m, 5000m, DMR, 1500m, 5000m, and 10000m races. She was named the OAC female runner of the year four times and All-Ohio runner of the year twice. Alison capped her indoor track career by earning All-American honors in the 5000m, placing 4th, and her outdoor track career by earning All-American honors in the 10000m, placing 3rd.
Alison currently works in the pharmacy at Lima Memorial Hospital. Alison still enjoys running and she loves spending time with her husband, Kyle, and their daughter, Tessa.

Alison is extremely honored to be inducted into the Tecumseh Athletic Hall of Fame and wishes to thank her family, coaches, friends, school administration, and members of the Tecumseh community.
