Randy Trostel (2001)

Randy Trostel is a 1966 graduate of Tecumseh High School. While at Tecumseh, Randy participated in basketball, football, track &, field where he received All League honors. Randy qualified for the 1965 Ohio State Track & Field Championships in the 100- and 200-yard dashes, where he qualified for the finals of the 200 and finished 7th. He was the first Tecumseh High School athlete to qualify for state track &, field competition.Randy was also a member of the Varsity “T" Club, physical education student assistant and a member of the 1963 homecoming court while at Tecumseh. Randy received the faculty/staff "Citizenship Award" during his 1966 Graduation Ceremony.
After graduation from Tecumseh, Randy attended Ashland College at the encouragement of former Tecumseh High School and Olive Branch Basketball coach, family friend and the first Tecumseh High School Hall of Fame inductee Frank Shannon. Randy was recruited to play football and run track at Ashland, but due to back problems he was not able to participate. He continued his athletic interests by participating in intramural sports and working with the Lacrosse coach as an assistant. Randy graduated from Ashland College in 1970 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education.
Following graduation from Ashland College, Randy continued his education by enrolling in a master’s program at Miami University in the summer of 1971. While at Miami he received a graduate assistant position and served as a resident freshman advisor.
Randy was employed by the New Carlisle-Bethel School District for the 1971-72 &, 1972-73 school years to teach health and physical education at Olive Branch Junior High School. While at Olive Branch, he served as 8th grade boys basketball coach, 8th grade football coach, and head coach for 8th and 9th grade track & field.
In 1973 Randy accepted a position at Miami University as assistant director of admission. He was later promoted to associate director and now serves as Senior Associate Director. (Senior was their way of politely saying that he's been around a long time). Randy will complete his 29th year on the admission staff in July of this year. Inthe spring of 1999, he as honored by the Ohio Association of College Admission Counselors with a “life membership" award based on years of service and contributions of the profession.
A highlight of Randy's admission responsibilities includes working closely with the Miami Athletic Department in the recruitment and admission of student athletes (Tecumseh High School is mentioned often when references are made of former Miami standouts and Tecumseh High School graduates Wayne Embry and Dave Zeller.)

Randy and his wife Vicky (a 1966 Tecumseh graduate) have 2 children, Scott (27) and Angie (24). Scott and his wife Katie are both Miami graduates and reside in Columbus, Ohio. Angie is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and resides in Oxford where she is pursuing a master’s degree in education.
