Briana Nannen

Dr. Briana Nannen is an Associate Professor of Choral Music Education and Coordinator of Music Education at Marshall University, where she also serves as Interim Director of Choral Activities. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education with a minor in Educational Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2017, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. During her doctoral studies, she was honored as a Cynthia Olson Fellow and Glenn Korff Fellow, and nominated for Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year. Her dissertation explored adolescent gender identity and choral music participation, contributing valuable intersectional perspectives to the field. Dr. Nannen holds a Master of Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, from Elmhurst College, where she also earned a Vocal Performance Certificate. She has been recognized consistently for leadership and academic excellence, including memberships in Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. Her professional achievements include numerous peer-reviewed national and international presentations, co-authored publications, and leadership roles as a clinician and adjudicator for choral festivals.  Dr. Nannen is also a celebrated TEDx speaker and a dedicated endurance athlete, having completed multiple Ironman triathlons. From her early leadership roles and artistic excellence in Olympia to her current influential academic and community work, Dr. Briana Nannen exemplifies dedication to advancing choral music education and fostering inclusive, impactful musical experiences.  Her contributions to Olympia are equally noteworthy. As Secretary of the Illinois Association of Student Councils and President of the Olympia Student Council,. Additionally, she participated in various music competitions, consistently achieving recognition for her talent and dedication.
