CLASS OF 1962
3 Sport Athlete and recognized as one of the better all-around
athletes in WHS history.
Track & Field - 4 year Varsity letterman and key part of the first WHS team to ever win a track meet. Broke the 100 yard dash, pole vault and discus records several times: several of which stood into the 1980s.
Set discus record of 145'8" in 1962 which he held until 1987.
Cross Country - Varsity letters Sophomore, Junior and Senior years.
Key part of the team that won the Cahokia
Conference 2 consecutive years.
Basketball - 5'9" could play above the rim and received Varsity letters his Junior and Senior years. Part of the Cahokia Conference and District Tournament team winner in 1961. Senior year statistics included 7.3 ppg and 5.2 rpg. John led the team with a 77.8 free throw percentage.
Awards - 1962 Waterloo Jaycees Outstanding Athlete for Track & Field
