CLASS of 1961
4 sport athlete and recognized as one of the better all-around
athletes in WHS history.
Basketball – A dominant scorer in 2 Varsity Seasons with more than 900 points in those 2 seasons. He was the second leading scorer on the ’60 Kaskaskia Conference Championship team and the top scorer on the ’61 team that was the Cahokia Conference and District Champs.
Track & Field – 3 year Varsity letterman and key part of the first WHS team to ever win a track meet. A former school record holder in the
880 yd run and the mile relay.
Cross Country – 3 year Varsity runner and the 2nd best team finisher on the ’61 Conference Champion Team. Key part of the team that won the Cahokia Conference2 consecutive years (and possibly three consecutive years)
Baseball – 4 Year varsity player and the starting shortstop on the
‘61 team that was Conference and District Champion.
Awards – 2 Year All-Cahokia Conference Basketball Team, Chicago Daily News Honorable Mention All-State basketball team, StL
Globe Democrat Honorable Mention All-District Basketball Team, Coaches/Players All East Side District Basketball Player, and the Stl Post Dispatch and Globe Democrat Cahokia Conference All-League team.
