CHUCK STEVENS

Chuck Stevens is the first Coach to be inducted into the Winston Churchill Athletes’ Hall of Fame. In his quarter-century at Churchill, he coached Varsity baseball for twenty-five years and was Fred Shepherd’s assistant football coach for twenty-three years.
As baseball coach, Chuck was instrumental in the Bulldogs winning Churchill’s only Maryland State Championship in 1979. During the years 1978 – 1986, Coach Stevens also led his Bulldogs to numerous regional and state playoff games. During the 1978-79 school year, Coach Stevens was selected as the Montgomery County Coach of the Year. In 1990 Coach Stevens received the Washington D.C. “Homeplate Baseball Award” and the following year he was inducted into the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Chuck’s teams amassed 214 wins during his career.
During his years as the JV football head coach, Coach Stevens won three Montgomery County JV Championships and his 1977 team went undefeated.
When Chuck retired from Churchill in 1990, he had cemented himself as an inspiration to hundreds of students, teachers, and coaches during his many years at Churchill. Chuck passed away in 2004. Today he is survived by his two sons and two daughters.
In 2017 the baseball stadium was named after Chuck with a ceremony celebrating his life and accomplishments.
