BERNICE DOVE

Community Star

Bernice Dove began her journey at Churchill in the summer of 1975 when her 1st & 2nd sons Jay Dove & Keith Dove began their high school journeys at the school. Bernice was a MCPS school bus driver for over 20 years who made sure to become part of the community she wanted to see a difference in and lucky for us, that was the Churchill community. She was a passionate master of the kitchen which soon found its way into the hearts of the Churchill community. She was a team mom and upon retiring she became the “Churchill Grandma” as her granddaughters Jazmin & Jana began their Bulldog careers. Bernice took on that role proudly supporting other community members & theScotland community members in their journey as well. Always in her Blue &Green, you would see her in exclusive Bulldog gear thanks to then Athletic Director Mike Carroll, and her son’s Coach K Letterman’s jacket. Bernice’s devotion to her family & community experience at the school allowed her to partner with Mike Carroll to completely revamp the concession stand food menu. The menu was extensive with food items such as ribs, BBQ & fried chicken, crab salad & so much more. Visiting fans marked their calendars to be able to come enjoy Bernice’s cooking. Her big hugs, bright smiles & hard laughs created a unique environment in the Churchill community. Bernice was a staple of the Churchill community for more than 20 years, supporting her sons, grandchildren & the entire Churchill community. Churchill was not just a school, it was family and even in her final years, she never forgot she was a Bulldog for life still requesting to wear her favorite Churchill gear.
