Charles, known as Butch during his years at Taylor, graduated in 1958. He was an outstanding athlete who received 9 varsity letters: football (3), basketball (3), and baseball (3). During his sophomore year he was called in to action after the starting quarterback on the foolball team was injured. He completed 7 of 8 passes and led his team to victory. He continued to quarterback the team for the remainder of the season, as well as his junior and senior years. He was co-captain his senior year. Butch capped his football career by being selected first team All-Hamilton County. Butch was captain of his basketball and baseball teams. Basketball was his first love. He was one of the smartest players in Taylor's history. He received All-League recognition in basketball '58. Continuing his basketball career at Denison University, he was a regular player known for his defense and rebounding. While in college he averaged double figures in scoring. After graduating from Denison in 1962 with a B.S. Butch went on to earn a M.A. In 1966 and a PHD in 1968 from the University of Missouri. He signed on as a professor of Psychology at Beloit College from 1967-69 and Denison University from 1969-99. He completed his academic career as Provost (Chief Academic Officer)from 1990-99.
