Don was a product of Holmes High School in Covington, Kentucky where he played basketball and football 1936-40, was quarterback and defensive safety his junior and senior year. Northern Kentucky football champs in 1939. Played in the East-West All-Star game in Lexington, Ky in 1939. Joined the Navy after graduation, served 1942-46. Enrolled at the University of Cincinnati and was starting quarterback in 1946. Played in UC's first Bowl game, the Sun Bowl and later in the Glass Bowl against Toledo. UC was Mid-American Champs in 1946 and 1949. Selected by the University of Kentucky to be on their All-Opponent Team. Voted Best Defensive Back in 1949. Coached championship teams at Montpelier High School, Montpelier, Ohio in 1950, at Taylor High School, North Bend, Ohio 1955, 1958, 1959, 1962 and 1964. Voted by Cincinnati High School Coaches as Coach of the Year 1964. Has been inducted into the University of Cincinnati Hall of Fame, the Northern Kentucky All-Sports Hall of Fame and Buddy LaRosa Hall of Fame.
