Nick played baseball and basketball at Taylor. In basketball, Nick earned two varsity letters and led the Yellowjackets in scoring, assists and steals. He tied the single-game scoring record of 41 points two times during his senior year. Nick was a three-year letterman in baseball and hit over .500 during his senior year. In 1979, he was selected First Team All- League and All-City and played in the East-West All-Star Game. He continued his baseball career at the University of Cincinnati.
