Max was a standout athlete in all sports at Taylor. He lettered in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. He was an All-State letterman his Junior and Senior years. Max was the MVP in the Red Cross Charity Game scoring 18 points in 1943. He was the leading scorer in football garnered All-League recognition. In Baseball he played shortstop and earned AlI-State honors. In track he tied for first in the 100 yard dash and won the 120 yard low-hurdles in the County Track Invitational. After serving in World War Il, he attended Xavier University playing football and basketball. He then went on to Arizona State University on a sports scholarship earning outstanding student honors.
