Tom was an outstanding athlete in four sports. He earned 12 varsity letters: 2 in football, 4 in basketball, 2 in baseball and 4 in track. In basketball Tom played on the varsity team for 4 years and was an excellent perimeter shooter, averaging 15 points per game. If the 3 point shot was in use at this time, he would have averaged more than 20 points per game. His senior year he was team captain along with being the leading scorer. His teams qualified for the District tournament in '46, '47 and '48. Tom was a Cincinnati-Post All-Star and played in the East-West game in 1948. After graduating in 1948, Tom attended Miami University and played basketball for one year before being drafted in the Army for the Korean Conflict. He participated on military teams during his years in the service. After serving his country, Tom returned to our community where he coached and volunteered for numerous years. He also continued to play basketball in the independent league. Tom's contributions to our community are immeasurable. He coached grade school basketball teams for 12 years, served as a mentor in the Big Brother Association, tutored at Hitchens Elementary School for 5 years and now volunteers at the Cleves Senior Center.
