Graduated from Taylor High School in 1979. Played 1 year of golf, 3 years of tennis, 4 years of basketball and 4 years of softball. She was all-league in tennis, basketball, and softball both her junior and senior years and named Player of the Week many times. Played 1st singles and Ist doubles in tennis. Pitcher in softball but played in any position on the field. Her most loved and successful game was that of basketball. Playing with the big ball and no 3-point line, Julie led the yellowjackets to the state tournament semi-finals and made the all tourney team. Sophomore, junior and senior years she accumulated 1,050 points and shot 89% from the line. Senior year named 1st Team All-League, 1st Team All-City by the Cincinnati Post and Enquirer, Basketball Player of the Year in the Cincinnati area, 1st Team All-State selected to the LaRosa's High School Sports Wall of Fame as well as captain in the East-West All-Star game, given the Legion of Merit Award and named to the Who's Who Among High School Students. Honored as Taylor High School's Female Athlete of the Year and the Jaycee's Athlete of the Year in the spring of 1979. Received a scholarship to the College of Mt. St. Joseph, an NCAA Division IlI school at that time, played 4 years of tennis and basketball. Scored 1250 points in her last three years, averaging 21 points as a junior and 22 points per game as a senior. One of the top 20 scorers in the nation and top 10 in foul shooting. In 1983 was 2nd team NCAA All- American (only Ohio player selected), Ist team All-State, twice named NCAA Div IlI Player of the Week, selected to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the College of Mt.
