Ray received two varsity wing "" letters while attending Taylor, lettering in baseball, football, tack and basketball both his junior and senior year. Ray was team captain and averaged 20 points per game in basketball as a senior, receiving MVP as well as All-City honors. He was top points-earner in the Hamilton County track meet, and named captain of the football team where he was selected All-city. Ray went on to play college basketball at Taylor University.
