Gene was a 1957 graduate of Taylor High School. He earned 9 Varsity letters. He lettered 3 years in football, 2 in track, 1 in baseball, 1 in basketball and 2 in swimming. The highlight of his high school career came in 1955 when he was Cincinnati's leading scorer in football with 116 points. He received All-City honors Cincinnati Post-Timestar and the Cincinnati Enquirer and was selected 1st team All- League Hamilton County.
He also excelled in track and placed 2nd in the mile at the Greater Cincinnati track meet in 1955. Gene went on to play football and basketball for the First Naval District and was named to the 1957 All-Navy football team. He received an appointment to the Naval Academy but chose to volunteer for Submarine Service.
He retired from Submarine Service as "Chief of the Boat" on the nuclear missile submarine George C. Marshall in 1976. After the service, he went to work for General Dynamics and retired from there in 2001 as the Project manager for submarine overhaul. He has a B.S. In Management from Johnson & Wales University.
Gene married the former Donna Sisco and has two children, Dawn and Greg.
