New Haven High School

Nick Cunningham is an athletic director who has worked tirelessly to reconnect New Haven High School with its broader community and create meaningful opportunities for students. He partnered with the New Haven Chamber of Commerce to bring local businesses back into the schools, encouraging them to hire and invest in New Haven students.

In a highly diverse community with 65% of students facing socioeconomic disadvantages, he uses athletics and student involvement in elementary and community events to bring cultures together and strengthen relationships. By championing Gipper and other social media tools, and exploring new offerings like an officiating course and broadcasting curriculum, he is expanding recognition, resources, and future pathways for student-athletes. Above all, he focuses on making sure students have what they need to be successful and “something to strive toward” on and off the field.
