Joey Collins serves as athletic director at Gaithersburg High School, where he gives everything to his school and community and uses Gipper to showcase the positive work happening every day. Serving a low-income community, he is deeply connected with students on a daily basis and is committed to providing the best possible experiences for kids, families, and the wider school community. He helped create an equity-centered sports advisory council that gives athletes from every sport a voice, surfaces barriers like fees and transportation, and drives changes such as fee waivers and translated communications so all families can engage.

Thrown into the role four years ago, Joey has led a culture and reputation turnaround, making Gaithersburg “a valued place to be” for student-athletes.
