Michael Pettit has transformed Spartanburg District 1 athletics by uniting every program under a consistent, modern brand and making it easier than ever for the community to engage. Through Gipper-powered graphics, weekly digital schedules, and a new phone app, he’s created a central hub where families know exactly when and where to show up—driving attendance and pride across all teams. Committed to access and equity, Michael has implemented an “open access” model that removes financial barriers, introduces no-cost equipment checkout, and partners with local organizations to cover fees so more students can participate.

He’s also led culture-building traditions like multicultural halftime showcases, joint service projects, and a recorded National Anthem by the school choir that plays at every event. By piloting a real-time eligibility and communication dashboard and modernizing facilities with sustainable, student-designed upgrades, he’s turned outdated spaces into vibrant hubs rooted in his belief that athletics can change lives.
