WENDY JOHNSON
Athletic Director
Laramie County School District #1
Wendy Johnson is an athletic director who treats the role as a year-round commitment to the success, safety, and well-being of every student-athlete and coach she serves. A steady problem-solver, she handles everything from weather disruptions and transportation issues to officials, parent concerns, and last-minute schedule changes, all while helping students navigate the realities of balancing school, work, sports, and family responsibilities. Since arriving at South, Wendy has revived and reimagined key traditions—bringing back Homecoming events, including a parade, and expanding senior nights to honor not only athletes and their families but also inspirational faculty who support them.
She also uses Gipper to promote events and intentionally highlight every athlete on every team at least once each season, celebrating dedication and growth even when the scoreboard doesn’t show a win. With 36 years in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and assistant principal, Wendy has consistently ensured that athletics remain a source of confidence, belonging, and opportunity for grades 7–12.
