As Athletic Director at Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep, Michael Matamoros has transformed a once-overlooked program into a unified, branded, and organized department that students, coaches, and the community now take pride in. He has built equity across all sports by updating uniforms, securing proper training equipment, partnering with local businesses to support funding, and launching digital ticketing and fan gear so families feel included and appreciated. Even after being diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, Michael continued to lead from the front—remaining present for games, practices, and pep rallies to model resilience and show students what it means to “have no quit.”

He has also expanded support structures by creating an Assistant AD role and a Female Athletic Coordinator position, and recently helped secure a donated soccer field from FC Dallas, reflecting his relentless commitment to giving his student-athletes more than they ever thought possible.
