Sandra Escalera has steadily reshaped Luther Burbank’s athletic program into a unified, student-centered department where every team feels seen and supported. She uses tools like Gipper to consistently highlight all programs, strengthening communication with families and building deeper connections between the school and its community. To give students a voice across sports, she created a Student Athlete Council with representatives from each team who meet monthly to collaborate, support one another’s programs, and foster a shared sense of ownership. Sandra also invests heavily in relationships with parents, culminating in end-of-season awards ceremonies that regularly fill the gym and cafeteria as the school comes together to honor its student-athletes.

Through this combination of visibility, collaboration, and genuine care, she has built an athletic culture that functions as one collective program.
