Austin Hackett is recognized for his relentless commitment to Onamia athletics and the broader school community. He starts most days by opening the weight room at 6 a.m. and often ends them on the field or court, coaching and officiating lower-level games to ensure students have every opportunity to play, grow, and improve. Austin supports athletes and coaches individually by designing personal workouts and meal plans, organizing community service events like team visits to Ruby’s Pantry, and publicly recognizing local sponsors who help sustain the program.

He also honors the strong Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe presence in the community by incorporating a Native Drum song into homecoming events and teaching players to care for their facilities—like picking up trash after games—to model respect and responsibility. In just three years as AD, after a decade of unpaid early-morning work and 21 coaching seasons, Austin has become a pillar of consistency, service, and values-driven leadership.
