MIKE HOPPE
Athletic Director
Bernards High School
Mike Hoppe is a hands-on athletic director whose deep commitment to every sport—especially fencing—has made him a standout leader across New Jersey. Known for rolling up his sleeves, he is often on the floor setting up scoring machines, reels, and strips for major fencing tournaments, working with a level of expertise usually reserved for experienced coaches.
Beyond fencing, Mike consistently donates his time, effort, and facilities to support extra events for all sports, treating every team and athlete with equal respect and importance, no matter the size or profile of the program. He “speaks the language” of each sport, building trust with coaches and making athletes feel seen and valued. Admired even by those outside his own district, Mike is widely recognized as “the best AD in America for the sport of fencing”—and his impact reaches far beyond one program.
