2021 Volleyball

In just its third varsity season, Green Level High School Volleyball made history by capturing the 2021 NCHSAA 4A State Championship. The Gators defeated Ardrey Kell in a thrilling four-set match to claim the school’s first-ever state title in any sport.

Led by Head Coach Alston Godbold, the team showcased outstanding teamwork, resilience, and relentless defense throughout the season. With a balanced roster of talented players, Green Level finished the year with an amazing 28–1 record, dominating opponents in the Triangle and across the state.

The championship run marked the beginning of Green Level’s tradition of excellence in athletics, inspiring future Gators to dream big and work hard. A true “first in school history” moment that will never be forgotten.

Key Highlights & Star Performers:

Ellie Sampson – Match MVP - A dominant force throughout the championship match, Sampson delivered 12 kills, along with a key block and 15 digs, earning her MVP honors.

Game-Changing Momentum - The Gators stormed out strong, winning nine of the first ten points in Set 1. With contributions from Ava Toppin—a powerful set turned into a put-away kill—and Morgan Downs, who added a right-handed blast, Green Level crushed the opening set 25-9.

Consistency and Composure - The 2nd set featured an early ace by Olivia Hummel and relentless pressure at the net from Sampson, Toppin, and Hummel—leaving Ardrey Kell struggling to keep pace. The Gators secured the set 25-19. In the third set, Green Level continued to dominate with smart blocks and timely kills, closing the match 25-12.

NCHSAA Sportsmanship Sportsmanship Award -Lizzie Boggess – Boggess earned the North Carolina Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Award, recognized for her exemplary spirit and conduct. Moments later, she clinched the game-winning point—a memorable highlight of both her performance and character.

Record-Breaking Season - The Gators finished with an outstanding 28–1 overall record, including a 13–1 mark in the Southwest Wake 4A Conference, capturing both regional and state titles—a first in school history.
