Slater Mapp
Slater Mapp and his family moved to Wake County in 2008 from Virginia. He started playing tennis with his dad at the country club down the street when he was in elementary school. In high school, he was on the number 1 doubles team and he was the number three singles player. Slater graduated from the University of Richmond with a double major in Art and Art History. He has been in education for 30 years, as an art teacher K-12, college professor, and arts administrator. He was the Visual Arts Educator of the Year for the North Carolina Arts Education Association and the Arts Educator of the Year the same year.
He is a photographer and artist and has been in numerous art shows locally and nationally. Though he is a bit slower Slater continues to enjoy tennis. Like art and photography, Slater believes that Tennis is a lifelong pursuit. He believes that it makes a great hobby, a path to college, and a great way to make personal and career connections. His goal as a coach is to create a positive atmosphere for growth and a sort of brotherhood amongst the players.
Slater has spent a career in leadership positions in education and the arts and he hopes to leverage this experience to help young men grow as future leaders on and off the court. When Slater isnβt making art, or playing tennis you can find him traveling or planning the next international travel opportunity for students and families.
Coach Mapp is married to Kathy Mapp and together they have two children, Will (22) and Emily (25). Mr. Mapp is one of the original staff members of Green Level and was the schoolβs first teacher of the year.
