Michael is a graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN, where he was a multiple All-State performer in both track and cross country. He still holds his school records in the 5000m, 3200m, and 3000m. Michael was recruited by NC State, where he competed in both track and cross country from 2010 to 2014. His lifetime track personal bests include: 5000m: 14:24, 3000m: 8:19, Mile: 4:08, and 1500m: 3:50. He was a contributing and scoring member of the cross country teams that competed at the conference, regional, and NCAA championships. 

In 2021, Michael started coaching high school track and cross country with his wife Megan at Cary Christian School. At Cary Christian, they have coached multiple NCISAA state champions and All-State performers. In cross country, they coached the women’s program to 2 NCISAA cross country state titles (2022 & 2023) and the mens' team to a NCISAA state title (2024). Michael joined Green level as a head distance coach in fall of 2024.

He works remotely in sales enablement at a large tech company. Outside of working in tech and coaching, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife Megan and their son Maverick.
