Roger Woodworth

2017 Inductee

Roger Woodworth was a member of the first senior class at the newly built Northeastern High School in 1952. After graduating in the spring of 1953, Roger enrolled at The Ohio State University, served as the Senior Manager of the Buckeye Men's Basketball team and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree.

Roger returned to Northeastern in 1958 to begin his 36-year career that saw him move from accomplished classroom teacher to venerable high school principal. During his tenure, Roger not only taught a variety of subjects but also coached both football and varsity men's basketball. However, he was best known for the 17 years he spent as Athletic Director and for the 15 years he served as building administrator. After earning his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Wright State University in 1971, Roger served as Assistant Principal from 1981-1993 and completed his career as High School Principal, retiring in the spring of 1994.

Under Roger's 32 years of administrative leadership, he:

  • Founded, organized, and assisted in the creation of the Central Buckeye Conference.

  • Honored as the 1997 “Golden Wing Award” recipient for his educational leadership and his dedication to staff and students of Northeastern High School.

  • Attended 63 of the 65 Commencements of Northeastern High School.

While his contributions to Northeastern High School are too numerous to list, Roger has been a Jet for life! He and his wife Connie and children Jay, Barry, and Lee Ann made the district their home with the entire community as their extended family since 1958.
