2017 Inductee

Ed graduated from Plymouth High School, Richland County, Ohio in 1960, and then earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education from The Ohio State University as well as his Master's of Science Degree in Education and a Master's of Arts Degree in Guidance and Counseling. Ed's teaching career began in 1964 as a vocational agriculture teacher at Northeastern High School. In 1971, Ed became the guidance counselor, a position he would remain in for the next 35 years, impacting the lives of countless students. Ed would serve in that capacity until his retirement from Northeastern in 2008.

Throughout Ed's career, there have been numerous and significant milestones:

  • Served as “The Voice”, for Jets football for 45 years, missing only one game during that time. The stadium press box was dedicated in Ed's honor in 2015.

  • Helped plan and organize the 11 year State Fair Project that provided nearly $900,000 in funds for the high school field house, tennis courts, all weather track, football stadium bleachers, as well as a variety of FFA activities.

  • Designed the “Golden Wing Award” in 1987 which is bestowed annually to honor a deserving community member. Ed was the recipient of this award in 1999.

  • Developed a plan for the NEHS Student Government to serve salads at the fair which has morphed into the FFA Rib Eye Steak and Fruit Bowl Concession, an ongoing FFA fundraiser.

  • Led the committee to organize a county/city wide College Fair in the 1980's which continues to be held each October.

  • Planned, developed and operated an ACT Prep program for 15 years.

Ed's community involvement includes his membership and service to Plattsburg Church, the South Vienna Kiwanis Club, and the Board of Directors for the Historical Society Heritage Center. Beyond that, Ed and his wife Barb are the proud parents of two children, Michelle and Michael, and four grandchildren.

The decision to become a member of the Northeastern High School Faculty in 1964, turned into a forty-four year career and paved the way for a lifetime of service to the school and the Jet community. Ed's dedication to the Northeastern community, his professionalism, passion filled job performance, and unwavering support of the staff and students of NEHS are part of the very foundation that helped make Northeastern High School truly unique.
