Mitch Negangard, class of 2013, was a 3-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball who helped continue Unity’s winning tradition throughout his career.

In football, Negangard earned 4 varsity letters and compiled a 47-7 career record. As a freshman, contributing mostly on special teams, Unity made it to the state championship game. He then started at linebacker the next 3 seasons, recording more than 330 career tackles while helping the Rockets to a 34-6 record. Unity Football reached the semifinals both his sophomore and junior years (all-conference selection), and returned to the state finals his senior year as team captain. Starting at both running back and linebacker, he recorded his 3rd straight 100-plus tackle season and earned 1st team All-State, 1st team All-Area, and 1st team All-Conference at both running back and linebacker.

In basketball, Negangard earned 3 varsity letters as the team won a regional championship his junior season. As a senior and team captain, he received the Citizen Pain Award while earning All-Conference and All-Area recognition.

In baseball, Negangard received 4 letters as a 4-year varsity starter. During his career, the Rockets would compile 93 wins. As a senior captain, he led the team in every major statistic, earning himself 1st team All-Area and 1st team All-Conference. He finished his career as Unity’s all-time leader in stolen bases and home runs.

Negangard finished his high school career as the winningest football and baseball player in Unity history.

He continued his football career playing linebacker for St. Ambrose University. As a junior, he led the nation (NAIA) in forced fumbles. For his senior season, he served as team captain, finished 6th in the nation in tackles, and earned 1st-team All-Conference honors.
