Unity High School - Coach

Miss Cheney (Casey) came to Unity High School in 1970. She had over the years coaching duties in cheerleading, field hockey, basketball, softball, and track. I would like to recognize what she meant to the beginning of girls' interscholastic competition at Unity. Our program began in the 1973-1974 school year. I was coaching our two major sports (volleyball and basketball) and was serving as the unofficial girls' athletic director or sports' coordinator. For the first seven years I had no assistant coaches in either sport. It was during this period when I was very busy that Casey served as an unofficial volunteer assistant for anything and everything that needed to be done. Her assistance included everything from helping set up for home events to keeping statistics for each team. She was an invaluable part of those first seven years in the growth of our girls' program. I feel it very appropriate that she be recognized for her unofficial, behind-the-scenes involvement in the girls' sports' program at Unity High School. - Liz Osborn
