Ascenazi Callahan
At the 2026 North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Women's Individual Wrestling State Championships, held on February 21, 2026, at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, sophomore Ascenzi Callahan delivered a historic performance for Green Level High School. Competing in the 107-pound weight class, Callahan captured the 8A Individual State Championship with a thrilling 19-16 victory over Millbrook's Sophia Gould in the championship match. She finished the season with an impressive 29-2 record, establishing herself as one of North Carolina's top wrestlers.
Callahan's state championship was a milestone for Green Level Athletics, as she became the first girls wrestling individual state champion in school history. Her title also helped the Gators earn a top-10 finish at the NCHSAA 8A State Championships, highlighting the continued growth and success of the Green Level wrestling program.
Throughout the season, Callahan consistently demonstrated exceptional determination, technical skill, and composure against the state's best competition. Her championship run showcased her ability to rise to the occasion on the biggest stage and solidified her place among the school's premier student-athletes.
As a sophomore, Ascenzi Callahan became one of the youngest state champions in Green Level history, and with two seasons of eligibility remaining, her state title marked the beginning of what has the potential to become one of the most accomplished wrestling careers the Gators have ever seen.
