Dale Doucette - Coach
A Lifetime of Dedication to Maine Wrestling
Few names are as closely tied to the success of Maine high school wrestling as Dale Doucette. Over the course of more than three decades on the mat, Doucette built an extraordinary legacy as both an assistant and head coach, helping shape championship programs and generations of student-athletes. Doucette began his coaching career in 1983 as an assistant at Bucksport High School, before joining Noble High School in 1984. During his first tenure at Noble (1984–1987), the Knights captured back-to-back state championships in 1985 and 1986 and finished second in the state in 1984. From 1988 to 1992, Doucette served as an assistant coach at Kennebunk High School, where the Rams claimed the 1991 State Championship. The following year, he returned to Noble to guide the junior high program, where he played a key role in developing young wrestlers—including convincing future standout Kevin Gray to take up the sport. In 1994 and 1995, Doucette took over as head coach at Kennebunk, leading the team to runner-up finishes at the state championships both years. His longest and most successful stretch came from 1996 to 2014, when he returned to Noble High School as an assistant coach. During that era, the Knights captured 11 state titles, including a record-breaking eight consecutive championships, and finished second in the state three times. Across his remarkable career, the teams under Doucette’s guidance earned an incredible 14 state championships and six runner-up finishes, cementing his place as one of Maine wrestling’s most accomplished and respected coaches.
