A Noble Champion: Janice Strohecker’s Record-Breaking Career and Lifelong Love of the Game

Janice is a 1992 graduate of Noble High School. She had an affinity for athletics from a young age; whether she was dribbling a ball or cartwheeling instead of walking, she was always moving. She honed her skills at Woods Fields with Lebanon Little League, the Berwick fields with BNBL softball and the tile basketball court at the former Noble Junior High/Berwick High School with the travel team of BNBL basketball program. In 7th grade she added soccer to her list of seasons. She played these three sports through her senior year. She excelled as a center halfback on the soccer field, and as a pitcher and 3rd baseman on the diamond – but Janice's true passion has always been basketball. Janice was a 4 year starter on the varsity team. She was named captain her senior year, awarded the MVP of the team in both 1990 and 1992 and finished her career with 1,144 points. She holds school records in field goal percentage career (47%)in a season (48%) and in a game (100% 9 for 9 ). Additionally, she shot 202 out of 289 at the line for an impressive 70% for career free throws. She was the recipient of many awards and accolades, selected to all-star teams and noted for great sportsmanship during her playing years. However, her first response to these honors had always been to share the spotlight and gratitude with her teammates and coaches. Janice has always put 'team' first. No one player wins a game, series, season or championship. It's a team effort. She has taken all these lessons in teamwork and created a career of leading teams of people through her work as a HR professional and a manager. The joy of her career can be described as creating relationships; of being a good teammate and creating lifelong friendships. Coaching all her “Little Dribblers” on Saturday mornings and helping coach her daughter Kara's high school and AAU basketball teams. She credits Noble Athletics for giving her a solid foundation to build a beautiful life.
