The Literati is our school’s chapter for the National English Honor Society. Our members are recognized for their excellence in Language Arts. Our mission is to enhance the literary atmosphere of our school and the surrounding community through volunteer service.

Eligibility & Requirements

• To be eligible for membership you must be a junior or a senior who:

• Has completed two English classes earning at least an A (or B if Honors or AP).

• Has an overall grade average of at least 80% since last school year.

• Has no major/multiple disciplinary infractions.Completed (or is currently enrolled in) an English elective (e.g., Public Speaking, Myth & Lang., Creative Writing, AO Lang., etc.), or was/is involved in an English/Communications-based club (e.g., Speech & Debate Teams, Yearbook, Theater, etc.)

If you are inducted, you will be asked to fulfill the following membership requirements to stay active:

• Attend club meetings (one per marking period).

• Pay the membership fee:

  • Juniors will owe $20 (includes a $15 one-time NEHS membership fee + $5 dues).

  • Seniors will owe $30 (includes a $15 NEHS membership fee + $13 graduation medallion + $2 dues).

• Actively participate in at least one volunteer "Literati Activity" that enhances the literary atmosphere of our school and/or community, completed by the end of May (e.g., tutoring, assisting with or organizing events, etc.).

• EXISTING senior Literati members do NOT need to reapply, but they will pay the dues/medallion fee for this year.
