John Tatter
Class of 2018
John Tatter put together one of the most decorated distance running careers in RJ Reynolds history, establishing himself as one of the top athletes in the state and beyond.
His breakthrough came in 2017, when he was named Cross Country Runner of the Year while earning All-Region and All-State honors. That season, he captured the NCHSAA 4A State Championship, earned All-American recognition, and was named the North Carolina Gatorade Runner of the Year.
John’s success continued into track and field, where he was named Distance Runner of the Year in 2018. He also earned All-Region honors and won the state championship in the 3200-meter run, further solidifying his place among the state’s elite.
Earlier in his career, John consistently performed at a high level, earning All-Conference honors in cross country in 2014, 2015, and 2016. In 2016, he added All-Region and All-State recognition in cross country, along with All-State honors in both indoor and outdoor track.
John’s sustained excellence and championship-level performances set a standard for distance runners at RJ Reynolds. He continued his running career at the University of Michigan.
