Melanie was a multi-sport athlete at Columbia, earning 11 varsity letters - 3 in bsketball & track, 2 in volleyball & softball, & 1 in cross country. In the Columbia Girls Basketball All-Time Statistics, Melanie is in the top 8 in 5 different categories - assists, steals, points, rebounds, and consecutive foul shots made. She wsa an integral part of the Lady Raiders teams that advanced to Regionals in 1996 & 1997 & that won the MAC-8 Conference Championship in 1997. As a Junior, she earned MAC-8 Conference 2nd Team & All County Honorable Mention. As a Senior, she earned MAC-8 Conference 1st Team, All County 1st Team, & was the leading scorer in the Lorain County All Star Basketball Game. Both years, she was named a Plain Dealer Player of the Week. During the 1996 track season, Melanie was the lead runner of the state qualifying 4x200 & 4x400 relay teams. The 4x400 team placed 7th in the State & set the CHS school record of 4:09.6, which still stands today. Both relay teams were selected ffor MAC-8 Conference 1st Team. Melanie was named a Plain Dealer Lorain County Track Athlete of the Week. Melanie ran cross country her Senior year, advancing to the Regional meet with a time of 23:22 & earning MAC-8 Conference 1st Team honors. Melanie ended her High School athletic career by benig named to the 1997 Lorain County Athletic Administration Honor Roll. Melanie continued her education at Baldwin Wallace College, majoring in Business Administration and Sport Management. While at BW, she played on the wemen's basketball team for 2 years, lettered in track & field 3 years. Melanie resides in Lacey, Washington, with her husband & daughter. She works as a graphic designer at the Hands On Children's Museum in Olympia, Washington.
