Marti wrestled and played football for 4 years. He was a member of the '84 Raiders football team that was the Inland Conference Division Champs. Marti loved coaching young athletes. He and his wife, Robin, founded the Columbia Youth Wrestling Club in 2008, with Marti as the head coach. Even though most club practices were held in the CHS wrestling room, Marti built a training facility at his residence so the youth wrestlers could work out and improve when not at regular practices. Along with teaching valuable wrestling skills, he instilled values such as hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Many of the youth wrestlers went on to have successful middle school and high school wrestling years. Their success was due, in part, to Marti's love and dedication to the sport of wrestling, and to the youth of Columbia Local Schools. Marti was a part of the Columbia community volunteers who helped make the weight room become a reality as it fully opened in the fall of 2013. Marti attended Cuyahoga Community College and attained his high school goal of becoming a police officer. He began his law enforcement career in 1988 in North Ridgeville and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2011. Marti passed away October 9, 2019.
