JAY BANYASZ
Jay Banyasz was an outstading student athlete. Jay played on both sides of the ball for the Raiders Varsity Footbal lteam - defensively as a safety and he was the starting quarterback beginning his Junior year. In the Raiders first ever home playoff game, Jay rushed for 271 yards and scored four touchdowns. He also completed 11 0f 15 passes for 168 yards and another two touchdowns. For his playoff performance in the victory over Archbold, he earned an ESPN National Award. Jay was selected for the Patriot Athletic Conference and the Lorain County. 1st Teams and he was named to the All Ohio 1st Team as a Defensive Back as a Junior.
Jay had a stellar Senior season completing 120 of 174 passes for 2029 yards and 28 touchdowns without an interception. He also rushed for 619 yards and 10 touchdowns. For his significant accomplishments, Jay received an extensive list of accolades: CHS MVP, Patriot Athletic Conference 1st Team and MVP Offensive Back; Lorain County 1st Team and MVP Offensive Back; All Northeast Lakes District 1st Team and Offensive Player of the Year; Lorain County's Golden Helmet Award as the county's top Senior football player; Cleveland Browns Player of the Week; Archie Griffin Athlete of the Week; Chronicle Telegram Player of the Week; 2 Time Fox 8 Player of the Week; Fox 8 Player of the Year; Morning Journal Player of the Year and All Ohio 1st Team.
Jay was a three year starter on the Raiders Varsity Basketball team. As a Senior, he was selected to the Conference 1st Team, Lorain County 1st Team, and was a County co-player of the Year. He also was selected for 2nd Team All District and All Ohio Honorable Mention. After graduation, Jay attended Notre Dame College on a basketball scholarship and earned his degree in Comprehensive Biology with a minor in Excercise Science. He then obtained his Masters degree in Education from Baldwin Wallace University. Jay currently resides in Olmsted Falls. He is the Director of Sports Performance at Elyria High School, whre he oversees the physical, nutritional, and behavioral well-being of the student athletes. He also develops year round strength and conditioning training programs for their athletic teams.
