Michael Webster

Michael Webster serves as the Varsity Head Coach of the Apex High School Women’s Volleyball program, bringing more than 30 years of coaching experience across high school, club, and collegiate levels. Originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, Coach Webster played volleyball as a setter at the University of Maryland and Paint Branch High School, and also competed in basketball. He holds a Master of Science in Physical Education and Athletic Administration from Ohio University and maintains extensive coaching certifications, including multiple levels of coaching accreditation, impact training, and CPR/First Aid.

Coach Webster is driven by a desire to remain connected to the sport that provided him countless opportunities and to positively impact the lives of student-athletes. His coaching philosophy prioritizes athlete well-being, skill development, and strong program culture. With experience teaching both technique and tactics at the highest levels, he focuses on building a program that develops confident, skilled athletes while emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and personal growth.

Coach Webster’s coaching career includes leadership roles with Triangle Volleyball Club, A5 Volleyball, Mount Pisgah Christian School, The Weber School, and collegiate programs such as Georgia State University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Central Florida, and Ohio University. Under his guidance, teams have earned AAU National Championships, multiple NCHSAA state tournament appearances, and conference Coach of the Year honors. At Apex, he takes pride in growing the program to support multiple teams and expanding opportunities for student-athletes. What he values most is working with the athletes and collaborating with coaches and administrators who invest deeply in their success. Outside of volleyball, Coach Webster values family above all else. A fun fact—he was a member of the 1992 USA Men’s Volleyball Junior National Team during the NORCECA Championships.
