Cam Hummel
Cam Hummel serves as the Outreach Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer for Apex High School through Duke Sports Medicine, supporting student-athletes across all sports. Originally from Barrington, Rhode Island, Cam competed in wrestling and baseball during high school before pursuing a career focused on athlete health and performance. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds credentials as a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), and CPR/First Aid provider.
Cam was drawn to sports medicine by a desire to help athletes navigate the adversity of injuryβfrom the initial moment an injury occurs through rehabilitation and a safe return to play. His approach emphasizes individualized care, clear communication, and collaboration with coaches, athletic trainers, and families. He is committed to helping athletes recover efficiently while prioritizing long-term health and performance.
Before joining Duke Sports Medicine, Cam gained experience providing outreach services at Sanderson High School and PRN athletic training coverage, including Division I athletic training student rotations. What he enjoys most about working at Apex is interacting with student-athletes and coaches and serving as a trusted resource to help athletes return to competition as quickly and safely as possible. Outside of his professional role, Cam enjoys cooking, cycling, and staying active through sports. A fun factβwhile he proudly wears Duke blue on the sidelines at Apex, his sports allegiance remains with his alma mater. Go Heels!
