Caitlyn Vehslage
Caitlyn Vehslage serves as the Head Coach for Unified Track & Field and an Assistant Coach for the Cross Country program at Apex High School, bringing passion, relatability, and a strong commitment to student-athlete development. An Apex native, Coach Vehslage competed in cross country and track throughout high school and also participated in track and cheerleading during middle school. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from East Carolina University and maintains her teaching license, CPR/First Aid certification, and all required coaching credentials.
Coach Vehslage was inspired to coach by her former coach, Roy Cooper, whom she greatly admired during her high school career. She strives to be a positive role model and believes strongly in leading by example. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes responsibility, accountability, and teamwork, reminding athletes that their actions—academically, athletically, and socially—matter. In Unified Track & Field, she is especially focused on inclusion, respect, and building a team culture where every athlete feels valued and supported.
As a younger coach, Coach Vehslage is able to relate closely to student-athletes and connect with them in meaningful ways. She takes pride in motivating runners at all levels, particularly those who may be newer to the sport or need extra encouragement. What she enjoys most about coaching at Apex is building relationships with students across the school community. Outside of coaching, she enjoys running, reading, baking, and family dinners. A fun fact—her twin brother, along with several teammates, helped create a new rule at the cross country state meet.
